Shotter Boys: Exeter

Thomas Shotter Boys after J. Adolphe Kiste.

View of Exeter from Exwick Hill.

Dedicated by permission to The Right Honble. The Earl of Devon

27 x 21 inches.

Thomas Shotter Boys was born in London in 1803 and is best remembered for his spectacular views of the city from the early Victorian period. He was both an accomplished water colourist and a proficient lithographer so his work is very highly regarded amongst print collectors and art historians alike. At the age of twenty he went to live and work in Paris and produced a series of images of the French capital but it is his series of lithographs of London from 1842 for which he is best remembered.

In this scarce view of Exeter the city's unmistakable cathedral towers can be clearly seen dominating the skyline as the viewer looks down from Exwick Hill
