Bosse Barber

Abraham Bosse

The Barber

13 x 10 inches

This exceptionally early etching of a barber's shop must rank as one of the earliest depictions of barbering in print. Bosse was one of the chief exponents of Baroque engraving in seventeenth century France and this is a very fine example of his work.

The print shows an aristocratic gentleman being visited in his chamber by the barber and his assistant. The moustaches are being attended to by the barber while the assistant prepares to hand over ever more specialist scissors.
