Hunt Pollard Carriage Hyde Park

The Four-in-Hand Club. Hyde Park

30.5 x 23.5 inches

A magnificent image depicting a Four-in-Hand carriage club riding in procession through Hyde Park during high summer. Five carriages and horses are depicted with more hinted at behind the trees making this quite a spectacle to behold. To the left of the image a wagonette and two well dressed gentlemen stop to marvel at the convoy whilst over to the right two guardsmen wave as the carriages pass by. This is clearly a grand day out as each carriage has anything from five to seven passengers all finely dressed and all enjoying the ride. Interestingly there isn't one woman amongst them so it was evidently a gentlemen's pursuit: a lads' day out!. The carriageways around Hyde Park, still in existence today, were the perfect place for the Bon Ton to be seen and show off their newest, flashiest carriages
