Charles Ancelin

A Pair of Racing prints

21.75 x 15 inches

A pair of pochoir prints by Charles Ancelin published in Paris by Galerie Lutetia, circa 1920.

These vivid and lively images are produced using the pochoir printing process whereby colours are applied to the paper through carefully cut stencils. Acrylic paints are most commonly used and result in a wonderful vibrancy of colour.

These racing scenes by the French artist Charles Ancelin (1863-1940) are very evocative of the Art Deco movement that swept across Europe after the First World War and influenced everything from art and architecture to dress and design. Their stylised nature would have chimed well with the clean lines and geometric appearance of interiors in the 1920s and 30s.
