Jean Baptiste after Nicolas de Poilly
Bouquets of Flowers
18.5 x 15 inches
A pair of hand coloured engravings of flower arrangements originally engraved by Jean Baptiste after the paintings by the C17th artist Nicolas de Poilly and reissued in London by Tiranti and Co. circa 1880.
Decorative botanical studies such as these were very popular in Victorian London and would have adorned the walls of many a fashionable boudoir. Each image depicts a dazzling array of summer flowers ranging from lilies and peonies to roses, dianthus and convulvulus.
