Fox Hunting

1 The Meet
2 Breaking Cover
3 Full Cry
4 The Deat

29 x 11 inches

A set of four aquatints in original hand colour, engraved on copper by Thomas Sutherland after the paintings by Henry Alken and published in London in 1824.

No coaching inn or country pub during the reign of George IV would have been complete without a set of hunting prints. Foremost amongst the artists supplying this demand was Henry Alken and here we see a fine example of his work. The engravings follow the hunt from The Meet right through to The Death, all set against the beautiful English countryside.

These plates have been deliberately trimmed to image and laid onto lettered support sheets before being mounted and framed by Frederick Daniell in London circa 1925. The effect is very pleasing indeed and the leaded corners of the frames only enhance their appeal still further.
