Vasi (1710-1782) was an Italian engraver and architect who lived and worked in Rome and championed its architecture. He worked on a grand scale akin to Piranesi and his wonderful engravings are equally evocative of how the Eighteenth Century city lived alongside its Classical legacy. The Vedute are accurate depictions of the city's classical landmarks enlivened by human activity in the foreground. So popular was his work with visitors arriving in Rome on The Grand Tour that he produced a series of 240 etchings issued in ten volumes between the 1740s and 1761, collectively known as the Delle Magnificenze di Roma antica e moderna.
