Charles Catton after George Morland

Partridge Shooting [&] Snipe Shooting

21.5 x 19 inches

Shooting was just one of the numerous country pursuits that a Georgian gentleman needed to master if he was to be taken seriously in society. To be a good shot was considered part of a young man's education alongside horsemanship, hunting and fishing. In these delightful images both our sportsmen are beautifully turned out and accompanied by their trusty hounds. By modern standards the barrel of the gun would be considered very long and it would have taken a great deal of skill to shoot with precision.
