Dragoons
The 4th (Queen's Own) Light Dragoons. [&] 2nd Royal North British Dragoons.

9 x 14 inches

Both these plates show Dragoon Guards, mounted and in full regimental dress. Characterised by distinctive uniforms, saddle bags, helmets and insignia, each regiment in the British Army was very identifiable both in combat and on parade. Ackermann's monumental task to record every costume in the army under Queen Victoria has left us with an invaluable record.

The 4th Light Dragoons (also known as the Berkeley Dragoons) were founded as early as the C17th when they fought against the Jacobite invasion. Likewise, the 2nd Royal North British Dragoons began their service in the north as the Royal Scots Greys only becoming part of the British Army when England and Scotland united in 1707 during the reign of Queen Anne.
